With layoffs looming, nearly 400 teachers to leave Philadelphia School District

Almost 400 School District of Philadelphia teachers will count this school year as their last. The 395 retirement and resignation notices for the year are still almost 100 fewer than last year’s 490.

But with more than 3,000 district positions in jeopardy, more could come forward.

As the Inquirer reports, teachers are asked to share their end-of-the-year plans with the district by April 15, but there’s still time to call it a day. The early retirement offer from the district is available until July 1 after the June 30 budget deadline.
