Weekend visitations canceled at New Jersey state prisons

Inmates at some New Jersey state prisons could be evacuated as Hurricane Irene nears, but evacuations or not, no one’s getting in.

The Department of Corrections has canceled all weekend visitations to state prisons, the News of Cumberland reports. Three of those are in Cumberland County, which faces a particular risk.

Of major concern is Southern State Correctional Facility in Maurice River Township, where some of the prisoners are housed in modular units.
