Volunteers clean ‘the emerald of Germantown’ on Love Your Park Service Day [gallery]

On Saturday, “LOVE Your Park Week” kicked off with service-day gatherings at green spaces across the city.

Among those efforts, volunteers joined with Friends of Vernon Park to weed a rain garden in, and spruce up throughout, a central Germantown area they consider the “emerald” of the neighborhood.

LOVE Your Park Week, which runs through Saturday, also saw scheduled service-day events at McMichael Park and Inn Yard Park in East Falls; Cloverly and Loudoun Park and Happy Hollow Playground in Germantown; Cliveden Park and Carpenters’ Woods in Mt. Airy; Courtesy Stable in Chestnut Hill; Kelly Park in Roxborough; and Pretzel Park, Fairview Park and Fountain Street Steps in Manayunk.
