Trolley Car to open new restaurant in West Philly

Ken Weinstein is currently scouting locations in University City for his third Trolley Car restaurant. The Trolley Car Diner opened in Mt. Airy in 2000 and the Trolley Car Café in East Falls opened last summer.

Weinstein said the idea to expand was not his. “University City District approached us probably six-months ago and asked if we were interested,” Weinstein said. “I thought that the University City area would be a good match.”

At this stage, Weinstein said he is trying to find the right spot. When he does, he envisions a diner-style restaurant that would also feature outdoor tables. “Outdoor eating is just very popular and we’ve seen it at East Falls how much people love it,” Weinstein added.

If all goes well, Weinstein said he could see the new diner in West Philadelphia opening in late 2012.
