Following allegations of embezzlement from a Chief Financial Officer who later resigned, officials at Weavers Way Co-op said they will be putting rules in place to prevent future financial scandals. Amid concerns by local residents of integrating Germantown High School students into Martin Luther King High School following the former’s closing last summer, Pametra Gee graduated as valedictorian despite the move. Judge dismisses case against Philly man charged in death of off-duty cop

A Germantown man was cleared by a Philadelphia judge of charges in connection with the death of an off-duty police officer in 2012. The District Attorney’s office argued that Kareem Alleyne, 37, purposefully ran over Philadelphia Police Officer Marc Brady while he was on a bike going to the home of Alleyne’s ex-girlfriend in Mt. Airy. Common Pleas Court Judge Lillian Ransom disagreed and acquitted Alleyne on all charges, which included up to 12 years in prison. Check out our complete coverage here.

Nearly $18,000 worth of computer equipment stolen from Manayunk school

Two unknown juveniles stole 13 MacBooks valuing a total of $17,927 on June 10 from the public K-8 James Dobson School. The two suspects have yet to be identified despite police releasing surveillance footage of the males. Click here for more details.

Fathers and children revved up for annual soap box derby race in Northwest Philadelphia

Families and friends lined W. Johnson Street to cheer on as over a dozen teams of children and their fathers rode homemade derby cars down the hill. The neighborhood was decorated with checkered flags and spray painted trophies were awarded to the winners. See the video and story here.
