State Police: Fewer fatalities in Pa. New Year crashes

The Pennsylvania State Police investigated 377 crashes over the New Year driving period, but only one resulted in a fatality.

Those crashes took place between Dec. 31, 2012 and Jan. 1, 2013, and according to the Troopers, 55 were alcohol-related.

    Some numbers to chew on:

184 arrests for driving under the influence
    1,884 speeding citations
233 citations for failure to wear seatbelts
32 citations for failure to properly restrain children in child safety seats

There’s some good news, too. Crashes and the number of fatalities are both down from last year. Of course, these numbers only apply to crashes investigated by state officers.
