Shots fired at police near 6th and South overnight

    A Philadelphia man is in custody today after allegedly firing a handgun at a group of people and police on South Street late last night.

    The Philadelphia Police report officers apprehended the alleged assailant, Isaac Carmichael, on the 700 block of Kater Street just before 2 a.m. early Sunday morning.

    According to officials, the incident began when Carmichael got into a verbal argument with a female over unwanted advances. The first shots fired towards the woman missed, but struck a nearby vehicle.

    The Philadelphia Police report that the man fled on foot, firing shots at the pursuing officers.

    Carmichael, 42, is a resident of the 5700 block of N. 12th Street. He was taken into custody without further incident. Police recovered a 32 caliber semi-automatic handgun with one live round remaining. He has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and other related charges.
