Two family caseworkers have been suspended after a 2-month-old boy starved to death at a Philadelphia homeless shelter.
Police have charged 32-year-old Tanya Williams with murder in the December 23 death of her son. But they are exploring possible criminal charges against others.
Homicide Sgt. Tim Cooney says Quasir Alexander weighed less when he died than he did at birth. The boy’s twin was also malnourished and treated at a hospital.
Cooney says Williams had been living at the Traveler’s Aid Shelter since September.
Lutheran Children and Family Service confirms they a city contract to help the family with parenting skills and other services.
Executive director Richard Gitlen tells The Associated Press that two caseworkers have been suspended amid an internal investigation.
