SEPTA wins distinguished budget presentation award

SEPTA may be facing funding troubles, but at least its budgets are transparent and easy to follow.

The authority has won a distinguished budget presentation award from the Government Finance Officers Association, a trade group in the United States and Canada.

The group said SEPTA’s budget serves as an effective policy document, operations guide and financial plan, as well as a good way of communicating the authority’s plans to the public.

Over the past several years, SEPTA has made a push to make its budgets easier to follow and more relevant by adding graphs and charts and including regional demographic and economic information to better explain its service.

“The award recognizes the work we have done to improve the budget as a document that is detailed, understandable and accessible,” Richard Burnfield, SEPTA’s treasurer and CFO, said in a statement.
