Want a say in how SEPTA serves its customers? The SEPTA Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), an independent group that works with SEPTA to represent customer interests, is looking for applicants.
The CAC is a forum for dedicated SEPTA riders who want to improve service and advocate on behalf of fellow passengers. The CAC reviews topics such as service reliability and frequency, cleanliness, safety, fares, financing and planning. The CAC often makes recommendations for policy or service changes, provides testimony and serves as a link between SEPTA and the transit-riding public.
One recent campaign the CAC embarked on was the extension of the Route 3 bus from 33rd Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue to Smith Memorial Playground. The CAC advocated for the route change and helped convince SEPTA to conduct a trial extension.
The CAC holds three monthly meetings – one plenary meeting, one transit subcommittee meeting and one regional rail subcommittee. Aside from the executive committee meetings, SEPTA CAC meetings are open to the public.
The ideal CAC member is committed to collaborative engagement, has a proven track record of community volunteerism, is familiar with Philadelphia neighborhoods and transit, is able to commit 12 hours per month, is willing to attend or host local community meetings and has no outstanding back taxes. Applications can be found online and are due by April 4.
