SEPTA bus shot in North Philly: No injuries reported

It was a scary Christmas Eve for passengers traveling by bus in North Philadelphia.

Officials say at least five shots were fired into the Route 60 bus at approximately 1 a.m. on Christmas morning at 6^th and Allegheny streets in North Philadelphia.

The ten passengers and driver reported no injuries. SEPTA spokesperson John Golden said footage from the bus cameras has been turned over to the SEPTA and Philadelphia police departments.

“Whether it was intentional or part of a crossfire situation, we’re still trying to ascertain that,” Golden said. So far, no suspects have been identified.

This is the third shooting this month involving a SEPTA bus. On December 11, a Route 48 bus caught a stray bullet while traveling through the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. And on December 8, a man who was shot in the head while driving crashed into a bus traveling through North Philly. In both cases, there were no injuries to passengers or drivers.

Golden says SEPTA’s protocol for an active shooter prioritizes the safety of riders. Drivers are to drive the bus from the scene, drop off passengers in a safe location and report the incident to authorities. In this case, the driver dropped off passengers at the Allegheny SEPTA depot.
