School District teacher on why he’s part of a union

In honor of EduSolidarity Day, School District of Philadelphia teacher Timothy Boyle is talking about why he’s in a union. The Notebook contributor and member of the Teacher Action Group and Philadelphia Federation of Teachers talks about the link he sees between his union and his students’ education.

“Providing a teacher with anything less than optimal working conditions makes no sense in light of the need for students to have optimal learning conditions,” Boyle writes in his blog. Boyle says he supports unions based on his belief in the power of collectives and his positive experiences with his union.
