Scally drops out of Philadelphia’s at-large council race

There’s one less person vying for one of Philadelphia’s city council-at-large seats.

Roxborough resident Bernard Scally has ended his bid as an independent candidate. Scally joined the race in January as a Republican candidate, but changed his registration when building a Republican-only committee proved tough.

Republican nominees Al Taubenberger, head of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the GOP candidate for mayor in 2007; David Oh, the lawyer who was narrowly defeated by Jack Kelly in 2007; State Rep. Dennis O’Brien; former United States Naval Officer Joe McColgan and lawyer/real estate developer Michael W. Untermeyer are vying for two open Republican seats.
