Right NEast/Wrong NEast: South side of Bridge Street is undeniably Frankford

There’s some argument over Frankford’s northern border. Some say it’s Cheltenham Avenue; others say Bridge Street. Regardless, the shootings that played out this past spring on the 2000-block of Bridge Street were in Frankford.

Yet, Wissinoming residents got a scare April 5 when Action News ran this headline: “Man and woman found shot in Wissinoming.”

Action News has made this mistake before, referring to a schoolbus accident at Pratt and Valley streets, and the Inquirer has the same struggle with the 4800-block of Tackawanna Street.

And regardless of how near to the boundary these mistakes are, we’ll make the same argument: it matters what the headline says. Frankford residents need to know what’s happening in their neighborhood, and people in Wissinoming shouldn’t have to sift through inaccurate headlines.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
