UPDATE: Police warn Delaware residents after two attempted abductions

Two women in Newark successfully fought off separate abduction attempts over the holiday weekend. Now police are warning others to be on the lookout.

UPDATE: Newark Police have released surveillance video they believe shows the suspect in the attempted abductions walking in the distance. The video is from the Main Towers apartments .

The first incident happened as a 28-year-old University of Delaware student was unloading things from her car at the Colonial Gardens apartments on East Main Street in Newark.

Around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, a man approached her from behind around and tried to put a rag with an unknown chemical around her mouth. She fought off the attacker and was able to run away.

The second incident happened around a few hours later outside the Main Towers apartments nearby the scene of the first attack.

Around 3:33 a.m. on July 4, a 61-year-old woman was attacked from behind. Just like the first incident, the attacker grabbed the victim from behind around her neck and mouth and tried to push her into a vehicle. The second victim also successfully fought off the attack and ran away on foot.

Newark Police say the suspect is described as a withe man in his early 20’s, about 5’6″ to 5’7″ tall, with a thin build. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call Newark Police Detective James Skinner at 302-366-7100 ext. 3135.
