Philly police: Someone put burning paper in cruiser gas tank

Philadelphia police say someone put a piece of burning paper in the gas tank opening of a parked police cruiser, but it went out before the car burned or blew up.

Police and the fire marshal are investigating the incident, which was discovered about 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say the car’s gas cap was taken off and placed on the ground. An officer found a burned piece of paper sticking out of the gas tank, which apparently went out on its own.

The car was parked at the police department’s 35th District building in the city’s Logan section on North Broad Street.
