Philly native fires at cheesesteak knock-offs

Asiago, sour cream and red onions do not a cheesesteak make.

So days Michaelangelo Ilagan, web designer, Geekadelphia contributor, Philly native and cheesesteak blogger.

Known better as Mikey Il, he’s taken to Tumbler to show the world what makes a good steak. Or, more accurately, what doesn’t. The recently launched This is Not a Cheesesteak blog asks readers to submit photos of descriptions of the poor cheesesteak imitations they come across, wherever they may be.

“The point I’m trying to make in the time being is recognizing the difference between authenticity and lack thereof,” Il told NewsWorks partner Technically Philly in an interview.

His favorite steak place is John’s Roast Pork in South Philly. Just don’t confuse his site with the outdated That’s Not a Cheesesteak! Not updated since 2010, the blog was set up by a Philadelphian who moved to Brooklyn. Il is from East Oak Lane and now lives in Queen Village.

And now for a question we never tire of asking? What’s your favorite Philly cheesesteak place?
