Philadelphia woman who says was wrongly detained wins case

A Philadelphia woman who says she was wrongly pulled out of her home by two city detectives and detained after officers came looking for her son has been acquitted.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Nicol Newman was found not guilty of disorderly conduct charges on Tuesday.

Newman’s lawyer, Michael Coard, says police wanted to arrest her son for theft on March 9, but he wasn’t home.

Newman didn’t let the detectives inside because they lacked a search warrant.

Detective Timothy McCool testified in the non-jury trial that the 48-year-old Newman was yelling and blocking the doorway with her arm. He says he handcuffed her and led her away.

Judge William Meehan granted Coard’s request for acquittal after McCool’s testimony.
