‘Person of interest’ in Pa. arson dead from burns

A man police considered a “person of interest” in a home fire ruled arson has been found dead with severe burns.

Scranton police were hoping to interview 57-year-old Aurelio Ceballos DeLeon in connection with Saturday’s fire.

His car had been impounded after it was found in front a home destroyed in a fire that was ruled an arson and fueled by a natural gas line.

Witnesses told police they saw someone leaving the scene and police had been searching for DeLeon.

Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland says an autopsy Tuesday showed DeLeon died of severe burns he had when his body was found in an apartment complex about 8 p.m. Sunday.

Police and the coroner were working to determine whether DeLeon was burned by the house fire.

Nobody was home or hurt when the fire was set.
