Pa. Senate leader proposes open records law rework
The Republican leader in the Pennsylvania Senate is taking the wraps off a wide set of proposed changes to the state Right-to-Know Law.
Sen. Dominic Pileggi’s 22-page bill introduced Friday includes limits on access by inmates and new authority for the Office of Open Records to review documents in private to see if they should be released.
It also allows fees for commercial use of records, provides a way for agencies to block “unduly burdensome” requests and exempts volunteer fire and rescue companies.
The proposal is the first step as lawmakers consider what changes to make to the 2008 law that governs the public’s ability to get government information and records.
