On-duty police officer shoots dog which attacked off-duty officer’s dog in Germantown

An aggressive dog which attacked an off-duty police officer’s pet pooch before charging an on-duty officer who responded to the scene was shot dead around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in Germantown.

Officer Jillian Russell, a police department spokeswoman, said the incident occurred on the 4800 block of McKean Ave. There, two dogs attacked an off-duty officer’s dog.

When police responded to the scene, one of the two attacking pooches ran at an on-duty officer. At that point, the officer shot and killed the canine, Russell said.

Neither the officers’ names nor the canines’ breeds was released. The dead dog was retrieved by Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia, from which a spokeswoman had no information on the surviving attack dog’s whereabouts at 12:45 p.m.
