Officer involved shooting in Delaware

A New Castle County police officer is on administrative leave, following a shooting late Thursday afternoon.

Officers initially responded to the Arbor Place Townhouses in the 200 block of Parma Avenue for a report of shots fired between two men. As officers were en route, witnesses calling 911 said the shooting suspect fled the scene in a car.

Officers say as they arrived on scene, they saw the car leaving the community and turning on to Memorial Drive. According to police, the officer, a two-year veteran of the force, stopped the vehicle and at that time fired his department-issued gun. The suspect, who sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body, then hit the gas and eventually crashed into a second car in the 100 block of Memorial Drive.

Police say the 27-year-old suspect was taken to Christiana Hospital, listed in critical condition. Meanwhile, circumstances behind both shootings are currently under investigation.
