Newark residents elect new mayor

Newark residents elected Polly Sierer to serve as the city’s next mayor.
Sierer secured 1,506 votes while candidate Amy Roe came in at a close second with 1,391 votes. A total of 3,695 were cast including absentee ballots.
Other candidates included Rebecca Powers who received 487 votes, Newark City Councilman Mark Morehead with 148 votes, Don DelCollo, with 108 votes, Matthew Vento with 41 votes and Robyn Harland with 14 votes.
“I’m really excited,” said Sierer following the results. “I’m looking forward to really working with the city administration and the council, all of our residents and the business community to carry out the vision and the plans for our city to continue to make this a great city and quality of life for all that live here, visit here and work here.”
Sierer will be sworn at the next city council meeting on Dec. 3.
She replaces Mayor Vance Funk who retired earlier this year after nearly a decade on the job.
