More than 100 students sickened at Pa. college
A Pennsylvania university says more than 100 students have been sickened with a gastrointestinal infection over the last four days.
East Stroudsburg University says eight students were admitted to Pocono Medical Center for treatment as of Thursday morning.
Officials at the state-owned university in the Poconos say 42 students visited the hospital or a campus health center Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Another 62 went Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Many reported vomiting and diarrhea. Doctors say that’s consistent with the stomach flu or norovirus.
The university told students the outbreak didn’t appear food-related but closed self-serve dining stations and disinfected the dining hall.
Officials are encouraging them to wash their hands and use hand sanitizers. They told sick students to stay home.
The university and state Health Department are investigating.
