Milford man charged with hunting violations
A 28 year old Milford man has been arrested on charges of unlawfully taking waterfowl.
Gary Messick was charged with three counts of firearm possession in an incident the day after Christmas. DNREC agents worked with Delaware State Police in the arrest. Police also seized three shotguns as evidence.
Spokesperson Gregory Rhodes says Messick’s car was found overturned on Prime Hook Road at Slaughter Beach at the height of Sunday’s snow storm. Authorities launched an investigation to find the owner of vehicle after a seach turned up hunting weapons, ammunition, and dead ducks.
A computer check found that Messick had a prior felony conviction and was banned from hunting and carrying a weapon.
Messick pleaded not guilty to the charges and was arraigned in Georgetown. He was released on $7500 bond. He is awaiting a trial on the charges in Superior Court.
DNREC wants to remind residents they should call the Delaware Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Section at 302-739-4580 to report fish and wildlife violations.
