Friday, March 7. 4pm – 6pm. DevNuts, 908A N. 3rd Street. OpenAccessPHL meets monthly to discuss technology developments and internet-based tools that Philadelphians can use to organize and connect. This month’s meeting features speakers Rebecca Lopez Kriss of the city’s Commerce Department, Jedidiah Weller, vice president of operations at Geeklist; Mike Dunn, of the EPA’s Office of Environmental Innovation and Danny Harvith, director of business development at Jarvus. PARTICIPATE: Asian Arts Initiative’s 20th Anniversary Exhibition

Friday, March 7. 6pm – 8pm. Asian Arts Initiative, 1219 Vine Street. Help the Asian Arts Initiative celebrate 20-years of building community and fostering social engagement. AAI hosts Make Fest, a night of making and doing fun, whimsical things – shoe shining, latch hooking, Chinese chess, seed germination, sewing, knitting and more. In the gallery, guests can peep spring fashions by Senpai + Kohai, and attendees are encouraged to bring a personal snapshot taken between 1993 and the present to add to the AIA community timeline. Free

VIEW: Instagram Show Opening Reception

Friday, March 7. 6pm – 8pm. Metropolitan Gallery 250, 250 S. 18th Street. Social media has changed the way we document the city, and Instagram is one of the obvious power players. This Friday catch the opening reception of Bailey Chick’s “Instagram show.” The show curates dozens and dozens of Philly-centric Instagram photos that have been pulled offline and printed. The photos are the work of some of Philly’s most well known Instagram-ers, including Austin Hodges, Billy Cress, Koji Sese, Kory Zuccarelli, Rachel Hara and more. Free.

DISCUSS: Northern Liberties in Words and Film

Saturday, March 8. 2pm. Philadelphia History Museum, 15 S. 7th Street. In conjunction with the ongoing Northern Liberties: From World’s Workshop to Hipster Mecca exhibit, Philadelphia History Museum will host a discussion about the growth and transformation of Northern Liberties. Speakers include Northern Liberties Neighborhood Association President Matt Ruben and local author Nathaniel Popkin. The event will also show the 30-minute film Northern Liberties: Destitute Urban Carnival Reborn! Cost: $10. 

DIG: Urban Composting and Vermiculture Workshop

Saturday, March 8. 2pm – 3:30pm. Mariposa Food Co-Op, 4824 Baltimore Ave. Tim Bennett of Bennett Composting offers a crash course in city composting this weekend, and Rania Campbell-Cobb of Greener Partners will help you learn worm basics, like how they help turn kitchen scraps and junk mail into potent fertilizer. Participants will be able to construct vermiculture bins – bring two plastic two to 10 gallon containers. Free, but registration is requested. To register email education@mariposa.coop.
