Eastern State Penitentiary 2013 Preview

Friday, March 15, 10am-5pm. Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Avenue. Come preview Eastern State’s new tours and exhibits during a full day of free admission. New this year: a “pop-up museum” with archival snippets like a mugshot book, handmade knives, and inmate-written publications. And among the new tours is one geared at escape. Free.

Waffle Day

Saturday, March 16, 11am-2pm. American Swedish Historical Museum, FDR Park. Swedes traditionally mark the beginning of spring and Annunciation Day by eating waffles served with strawberry jam and whipped cream. $10, includes museum admission, waffles and a beverage. Buy tickets online or pay at the door.

Laurel Hill St. Patrick’s Day Tour

Sunday, March 17, 1pm. Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Avenue. Learn the stories of Laurel Hill’s most illustrious Irish and Irish-American residents. Enjoy beer, food, and music after the tour. $20, purchase tickets online in advance.
