Man fatally struck while trying to throw trash in back of sanitation truck in Northwest Philly

An unidentified man was struck and killed by a city sanitation truck Friday morning in the city’s Stenton neighborhood.

A police spokeswoman said the sanitation-truck operator was driving in reverse in the 900 block of E. Mt. Airy Ave. just after 11:30 a.m. when the vehicle struck a man trying to throw trash in the back into it.

The victim, who suffered massive head and body trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been made public.

The incident remains under investigation, police said Friday afternoon.
