Lightning kills NJ man 48 years after father died same way

A New Jersey community is mourning the death of a man who was struck by lightning 48 years after his father died the same way.

According to a story published in the Press of Atlantic City, 54-year-old Stephen Rooney was struck by lightning during a house party earlier this month.  The Hammonton, New Jersey man was outdoors with a few others when a bolt of lightning hit a tree.

According to the story, when Rooney was 5-years-old, his father George was struck by lightning and killed while fishing in Fortescue, which is located on the Delaware Bay in Downe Township.

Services were held Thursday for Rooney, who died last Friday from his injuries.
