Lenfest Plaza opens today with Paint Torch lighting

After months of construction and the installation of a giant paintbrush, Lenfest Plaza celebrates its grand opening today with more than 12 hours of festivities.

The family arts fest begins at noon with five hours of free museum tours, art activities and music. From 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., a DJ will run the after-hours dance party with food trucks and a cash bar.

But the main event begins at 6:30 with the lighting of the Paint Torch. The 51-foot paint brush was installed in August. It’s a creation by Claes Oldenburg, the guy behind the Center City clothespin.
