Laid-off Atlantic City firefighters begin returning to work

Thirty Atlantic City firefighters will begin returning to work today after being laid off Sept. 30. They’re back thanks to a $9.7 million Department of Homeland Security grant.
The city has until May 5 to get everything in place, the Press of Atlantic City reports, before it loses the funds. The 30-laid off firefighters will get re-certified and are covered under the grant for two years, which also covers 21 additional firefighters and 10 promotions to captain.
