From the Archive…Just Like Smoke…and cigarettes

The American Suntanning Association is taking a leaf out of the tobacco industry’s playbook, and waging a campaign to convince people that tanning salons are not dangerous.

The American Academy of Dermatology has responded forcefully that the overwhelming medical consensus is that ultraviolet light used in tanning salons increases the risk of skin cancer, including melenoma.

“The dangers of smoking haven’t been proven”…  “Global warming is a hoax, and has nothing to do with burning fossil fuels”… “Tanning makes you look good, and is good for you”.  Pick your poison.

Here’s a story from the Philadelphia Inquirer on the issue.
