Friday, January 11, 5-8pm. Giant Steps Framing & Gallery, 229 South 20th Street. Frequent Eyes on the Street photography contributor, Rob Lybeck will be showing off some of his Philly photographs with an exhibit at Giant Steps. Come for the opening reception on Friday evening or visit the exhibit now through February 7th. Free.
Opening: Portraits of Brewerytown
Friday, January 11, 5:30-9pm. Storefront for Urban Innovation, 2711 West Girard Ave. Photographer Tieshka Smith’s “Portraits of Brewerytown” exhibit opens in the Storefront for Urban Innovation on Friday night. Smiths portraits of neighborhood life, depict a neighborhood in transition through the lives of its people. Come by the Storefront’s opening reception with the artist Friday evening or visit the exhibit from January 11-February 16 from 11am-5pm on Mondays-Wednesdays. Free.
Friday, January 11, 6-9pm. 40th Street Artists-in-Residence Gallery, 4007 Chestnut Street. The 2012-2013 residents – Fatima Adamu, Mike Harpring, Diedra Krieger, Thomason Parnes, and Celestine Wilson Hughes – invite the public to the annual Friends and Neighbors Artist Invitational, showcasing the work of artists with strong ties to the neighborhood as invited by the residents. This year’s artists are: Mike Ball, Shawn Beeks, Russell Brodie, Sarah Brown, Betty Leacraft, Kylin Mettler, Jenna Peters-Golden, Janis B. Pinkston, Abby Sullivan, and Shinara Taylor. Come for the opening reception on Friday evening or visit during the exhibit’s 3 week-long run during gallery hours on Fridays (1/18 and 1/25 from 3-7pm) or by appointment. Free.
Saturday, January 12, 2-3:30pm. Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street. Visit the family-friendly Constructing Play exhibit at the Center for Architecture and put little hands to work by building architectural wonders from edible ingredients. Register in advance online. $10 per child.
