Is early snowfall a harbinger for a snowy winter?

This is a reminder that for the third straight year, snow fell in New Jersey before mid-November. 

Snowfall amounts today ranged from a trace at the Atlantic City Airport to just under a half-inch in Freehold, according to a Public Information Statement issued by the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly. 

But does this mean that we’re going to experience a snowy winter?

Not necessarily, says NBC40 meteorologist Dan Skeldon.

“2011 saw virtually no snow during our warmest winter ever, and 2012 was a relatively easy winter as well,” he wrote on his Facebook page today.

How about 2013?

“Well time will tell,” Skeldon wrote. “Though I’d lean snowier.”
