Hydra coming to Philly
|
Who: The Essential Element, a new Pennsylvania company dedicated to providing clean water from solar hydrogen energy. Inventors of The HYDRA will brief elected officials, including Congressman Chaka Fattah and Philadelphia City Councilman Curtis Jones, city utility officials, the media and the public on how The HYDRA works and the role solar hydrogen systems can play in the new renewable energy economy. The Philadelphia Waterworks Interpretive Center staff will be on hand to analyze water samples before and after being treated by The HYDRA.
Where: Fairmount Park, just North of the Water Works dam (On the grass, next to the river)
The backdrop for The HYDRA demonstration is the famous Fairmount Water Works. For more than a century, it has supplied Philadelphia with water pumped from the Schuylkill River. The Water Works, built in 1850, transformed all it touched, improving fire protection, workers’ health, manufacturing processes, etc. (adapted from the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center website)
When: Tuesday, June 22 from 10am-5pm. Demonstrations of water cleaning for Congressman Fattah, Councilman Jones, and other elected officials will take place at 11am. An afternoon demonstration and briefing will take place at 2pm.
Background: Clean water is the basis of health and economic and social stability. Unfortunately, in today’s world, a lack of access to a stable supply of virus free water means that millions of people die every year from water borne illness. Children and women in third world countries forego education and skills training because they spend daylight hours collecting water from distant wells and caring for ill relatives.
The HYDRA was developed and built by The Essential Element, which consists of water system innovators Brad Carlson and David Squires, and renowned renewable hydrogen pioneer, Mike Strizki. It is unique in the field of water purification because it combines the highest quality water purification plant capable of processing 20,000 gallons of water per day, with state-of-the-art solar/hydrogen fuel cell power that can deliver electrical and hydrogen energy even with no sun.
Good Visuals: The HYDRA will be on the beautiful site next to the river performing water purification demonstrations, turning brown, contaminated water into pure, drinkable water.
