Germantown toddler who fell from moving car dies, police still investigating

A toddler from Germantown who fell out of a moving car and was struck by another vehicle last Sunday died two days later as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Jasir Clark, a 22-month-old boy from the 5100 block of Wayne Ave., was sitting in the backseat of a Chevy Trailblazer on Oct. 9. When the driver made a turn at Allegheny Avenue and Fox Street, Clark fell out of the car and was struck by an SUV.

He was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where he died Tuesday from multiple head and body trauma injuries.

State law requires children under the age of four be restrained with a child safety seat. Children ages four through seven must be restrained with a child booster seat. Violators are subject to a maximum $100 fine on the first offense, plus court cost, according to Pennsylvania’s Child Passenger Protection Laws.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, (AAP) who recently revised their policy in March, recommends babies’ child-safety seats remain rear-facing until the age of two and forward-facing for an additional two years.

The driver told police that Clark was wearing a seatbelt beforehand.

Police said Monday that their investigation is continuing and that no charges have been filed in connection with the case.
