Franco’s Trattoria in East Falls closes

Franco’s Trattoria, which overlooks the Schuylkill River from a scenic location off Kelly Drive, closed unexpectedly last weekend.

Building owner Mark Sherman, of Sherman Properties, says he’s looking for someone to take over operations at the Italian restaurant.

“The plan is to find a new owner and operator,” Sherman said. “Someone who has their heart and soul in the restaurant operations.”

Within days of this weekend’s closure, more than 10 prospective owners expressed interest, something that came as no surprise to the East Falls developer.

“It’s an outstanding location, the restaurant has always done well, the food is terrific,” he said. “It just needs that extra tlc of owner-operator.”

The next step for staff has not yet been determined. Sherman says much of the crew came from Water Works on Kelly Drive and may be heading back there.

As for a timeline, Sherman is confident to have new management in place very soon.

“I’m thinking weeks,” Sherman said.
