Floating away

The 2010 Thanksgiving parade will get going at 8:30 a.m.

Right now, families are streaming out of Suburban Station and the subway, blankets in hand, heading for the spots where they’ve settled in for years to watch the floats, the bands, the unicyclists and the B-list celebs from ABC shows. Some have lawn chairs, some ladders, some more ingenious contraptions.   The high school bands are tuning up and the balloon wranglers are trying to get the hang of the ropes.

It’s a Philly tradition, and if you’re not somewhere where you can watch it on Channel 6, listen to WHYY, 90,9 FM. Our Tom MacDonald, a parade maven of the first order, will be out amid the masses, giving live reports on the festivities to our Morning Edition host, Jennifer Lynn.

The weather isn’t great, but trust us, it’s been worse for the event in years past. We have the soggy socks to prove it.
