Flash Flood Watch for the Jersey Shore

A Flash Flood Watch goes into effect late this evening at the Jersey Shore.
Forecasters are concerned about “excessive short term runoff and flash flooding” overnight through rush hour tomorrow.
Before that, showers may spoil fireworks displays this evening.
“Bands of heavy showers and thunderstorms may produce narrow swaths of very heavy rainfall in a short period of time,” the watch bulletin states. “Urban areas and those locations that had flooding last Friday are more vulnerable to flooding.”
The heaviest rain and thunderstorms are most likely between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m.
While forecasters are still uncertain where the heaviest rain will occur, they expect the area between Atlantic City and Cape May to experience “widespread” one-inch amounts with some locations potentially seeing three to four inches of rain over a three hour period.
“Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation,” the bulletin warns.
