Fire reported in Chadwick Beach Island late Monday afternoon

    Firefighters are on the scene of a residential structure fire in the Chadwick Beach Island section of Toms River late Monday afternoon.

    Units were dispatched shortly before 5:30 p.m., with preliminary reports indicating that a fire extended from a dumpster to a house under construction at 313 Venice Drive. 

    “We see smoke far to the north of Lavallette,” Jersey Shore Hurricane News contributor reported at 5:23 p.m.

    Another contributor, Karla Webb, reported “flames high into the sky” at 5:30 p.m. “Lots of responders showing up!” she said.

    Crews from multiple fire stations are responding, according to radio transmissions.

    UPDATE (5:50 p.m.): The fire was declared under control at 5:44 p.m. No additional information was immediately available. 

    UPDATE (8:20 p.m.): The house was undergoing repairs following Superstorm Sandy and was extensively damaged during the fire, according to a report on Toms River Patch.
