Fighting foreclosure

The latest numbers for home sales show the housing market just finished in a decline for the fifth year in a row.  In fact, among all 12 counties that make up the metro Philadelphia region, only Kent County showed an increase of just one percent.  First Look takes a look at the problem and offers some solutions.

    More coverage:

Among those solutions are efforts by various state agencies to help. The Delaware Emergency Mortgage Assitance Program (DEMAP) offers homeowners assistance through a loan to prevent foreclosure.
The state is also offering a mediation program to help homeowners negotiate new terms with their lender. For more information on that program, click here.
The Attorney General’s Office has established a mortgage hotline, which can be reached at 1-800-220-5424. The Delaware State Housing Authority has a list of housing counselors they recommended.
