Family unity a part of WMOF keynote from African cardinal

The World Meeting of Families is full of speeches from prominent Catholics.  

One West-African Cardinal is calling on people to think before they act against others. 

Cardinal Robert Sarah of Guinea was just 34 when he was made a bishop — the youngest in the history of the Catholic Church.  During his speech to the World Meeting of Families, he urged people to tighten family bonds.

“In the family, the promise of God becomes real, the family is a living memory of the fidelity of God,” he said.

Sarah also spoke of how our roles in the family change over a lifetime.

“Within a family parents are custodians of children, but in time children will become custodians of their aging and sick parents and grandparents,” he said.

The outspoken Sarah has said Africa will save the church from bowing to modern pressures and turning away from church teachings.

He recently authored the book “God or Nothing.”
