A late morning explosion at a Union Beach factory has been deemed not suspicious by authorities.

The explosion occurred inside toward the rear of the International Flavors & Fragrances facility on Route 36 in Union Beach shortly before noon, according to a release from the Union Beach Police Department.

Two employees sustained injuries, including burns and respiratory distress, the release said.

A release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office indicates that a preliminary investigation has deemed the explosion “accidental” with “limited, minor injuries.”

Local fire companies and first aid squads responded along with the county authorities.

A fire broke out at the facility that straddles the Union Beach and Hazlet municipal boundaries in May 2015. There were no injuries in that incident.
