Doctor took $750 cab from Philly to Boston during hurricane

Ever wonder how much it would cost to take a cab from one East Coast city to another — and what type of person would be crazy enough to do so?

Desperate times called for desperate measure during Hurricane Sandy, and Dr. Sujatha Balija had to get to Boston for the American Society for Clinical Pathology annual meeting.

The London pathologist was visiting her daughter in Rosemont, Delaware County, when Sandy landed. She used the Rosemont Taxi Co., which told the Boston Globe the drive took eight hours and cost $750. The company actually cut the typical $1,000 rate to accommodate Balija’s unusual situation.
