A deacon from the Remnant Church of God 7th Day, located at 7708 Ogontz Ave., is in custody after being accused of rape and a series of other sexual assaults.

Courtney Wilson faces 14 charges, including two counts of rape, indecent sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and intimidation of a witness among other charges.

Police recently learned of the accusations after five women spoke up about the alleged abuse occurring between 1997 and 2005. The five women, all now in their 20s, were minors at the time they say they were repeatedly assaulted by Wilson.

The assaults took place at a time when Wilson was an active volunteer in the church. He was elevated to deacon about a year and a half ago, Lt. Anthony McFadden of the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit said.

All five women are affiliated with the church and “were friends at some point in their teenage years,” he added.

Wilson most recently worked for the Carson Valley Children’s Aid, a non-profit for children’s welfare, in Flourtown.
