Car runs Delaware DUI check point; crashes into home

Newark Police are investigating a driver who ran a DUI check point and ended up crashing into a nearby home.

The incident happened just after 1am.  Newark Police say a DUI checkpoint had been set up on Papermill Road near Cook Road.  A car came through the checkpoint traveling 96 miles an hour through the 45 mile an hour zone.

Police tried to give chase, but lost sight of the car.  As police drove along Papermill Road they found the car had swerved to miss a telephone poll.  It went airborne near the intersection of Winterthur Lane and crashed into the corner of a house.

Newark Police have not released the name of the driver.  They also haven’t charged the driver until the investigation is wrapped up.
