Captive office workers get to roam freely on ‘Zoo with Roy’ blog site

Listen

Many people who work in office cubicles dream of having a creative outlet where they can have some fun and break free of serious work for a few minutes.

One such bastion of humor and joy known as the “Zoo with Roy” blog started after its creator, an office worker with a self-described “boring office job,” had a dream he went to the zoo with Phillies pitching star Roy Halladay.

“It’s a creative outlet, which I like. Because I sit at in a cubicle all day, or in an office cause I’m fancy now, and I like having a creative outlet,” he said. “I like being able to be silly. I like to be able to take on a voice that very much is not my own normally. So, it’s fun. “

The Philly native now lives in the Washington, D.C., area and requested anonymity. Halladay gets a lot of love on the site but its low-budget drawings and image mash-ups go well beyond the beloved pitcher.

“There was a really silly video we made when Carlos Ruiz has an introduction at one of the playoff games and he just said, ‘Carlos Ruiz, my nickname is Chooch.’  I just made a long, long continuous loop and I played that with Enrique Iglesis’ ‘Hero’ behind it,” he said. “It makes no sense in any regard, but it completely cracks me up.”

He respects Halladay’s recent decision to retire from baseball

Hallady “decided not to linger around and struggle,” he said. “I think he saw that he wasn’t going to be dominant anymore so instead of playing at a level that he’s not comfortable with, he just decided to stop. And I thought that was pretty cool.”

Still, the Zoo with Roy site will continue.  The original dream of going to the zoo with Roy Halladay is still very much alive, he said.
