Cab driver critically hurt in head-on crash with DUI suspect

Philadelphia firefighters cut a critically injured cab driver from his wrecked vehicle after a suspected drunken driver rammed into the taxi.

Police say the 50-year-old cabbie suffered multiple fractures in the head-on crash around 3 a.m. Friday on South 63rd Street in West Philadelphia.

Firefighters freed him in about 20 minutes. He remains hospitalized at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

They say the suspected drunken driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when his car struck the Philadelphia Taxi Company cab head on.
