It’s almost that time — but not quite yet, please

If you’ve shopped in most any national retailer lately, you’ve already seen the back-to-school displays giving way to Halloween decorations and candy. Oktoberfest beers and harvest brews line the shelves at liquor stores, and pumpkin-scented coffee drinks of all kinds are already perfuming the air.
And as I browsed the Tuesday Morning store in Rio Grande the other day, workers were beginning to put out the Christmas and holiday decor. I had to turn away, lest I get myself into a panic over not having finished (OK, started) my gift shopping yet.
Still, the sight of these robust orange pumpkins, at Myers Farms along Route 47 in Goshen, stopped me in my tracks, posed as they were just next to those sweet seedless watermelons we’ve been feasting on all summer.
The Shore in September is surely the most gorgeous time of the year, but for many of us, Labor Day is the last big hurrah. So let’s all get through this week and enjoy the holiday weekend, knowing Fall is already peeking over our shoulders.
I’ll think about the holiday gift shopping next week.
