Atlantic City judge to get honorary doctorate

    His book inspired a cable network series and the series inspired a degree. Nelson Johnson will receive an honorary doctorate from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey at the school’s spring commencement.
    Johnson’s book inspired the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, and the college wants to honor the judge for his extensive research on Atlantic City, the Associated Press reports. Johnson was an attorney with the Atlantic City Planning Board when most of the city’s casinos were approved.
